Steps on Using Chain Link Fence Posts for Wood Fence

Considering using chain link fence posts for wood fence? Chain link fence is certainly not the most appealing type of fence. Wood fence, however, is. The good news is that using chain link fence posts for wood is not a difficult process.

Removing chain link fence post is easy. That said it can be tedious as you need to unscrew all the brackets from their posts. To save your time, use a ratcheting socket wrench. As you are going to use the posts for wood fence, you should remove the rails.

As there is no rail to support the posts, some of them will not be as solid as they were. If this is the case, then you shouldn’t use them. Why? Because wood fence catches the wind and the wind, well, exert more force against it compared to chain link fence. So, removing these loose posts and replacing them with new wood posts will be necessary.

To connect wood railing to metal posts, you need a U-shaped conversion bracket which fits around those posts. After you screw a bracket to each post top and bottom and screw wood railings to these brackets, you can continue the installing process just like when you construct a wood fence. And that’s it, you are done.
